The General Artificial Intelligence Lab (GAIL) of Shandong University was established in 2004 (formerly the Information Retrieval Lab of Shandong University). It has gradually grown and developed, forming a stable research direction team, and has gained a high reputation in the fields of information retrieval, natural language processing, large models, recommendation systems, and big data processing in China.
The laboratory adheres to the integration of industry, academia and research, constantly enhancing its innovation capabilities. It has undertaken over 100 national and provincial-level projects. On the one hand, it deepens theoretical research, strives for innovation and writes high-quality papers. On the other hand, it actively applies theories to practice to achieve the transformation of research results and product realization. Meanwhile, the discipline group attaches great importance to exchanges and cooperation with academic institutions at home and abroad. Currently, it has established stable cooperative relationships with many universities in the Netherlands, the United States, Singapore, Japan and Hong Kong, and has facilitated multiple mutual visits of teachers and students.
The laboratory strives to create a strong academic atmosphere and carefully cultivate outstanding students. We aim to gradually build the laboratory into a base for fundamental and high-tech research, a base for knowledge and technological innovation, a base for cultivating high-level innovative talents, and a base for domestic and international academic exchanges and multi-disciplinary cross-research in the fields we study.
Our discipline group recruits about 20 doctoral and master's students each year. We warmly welcome students with a solid foundation in mathematics, strong programming skills, and a passion for general artificial intelligence research to join us!
